At the Montana Raptor Conservation Center (MRCC), we respond to more than 200 requests each year for rescuing distressed raptors across a vast area of 88,000 square miles in the southwestern, central, and eastern regions of Montana. We are fortunate to have a network of dedicated transport volunteers statewide who assist in retrieving injured raptors and transporting them to designated meeting points, effectively helping us manage transportation costs. Additionally, we work closely with state and federal agencies to coordinate rescue and transportation efforts.
During the spring and summer months, our operations experience a significant increase, with 67% of our admissions occurring between May and October. This surge is primarily attributed to the breeding and nesting season for many raptor species. A substantial number of injuries during this period involve nestling or fledgling raptors that are found outside their nests.
