Frequently Asked Questions
- What do I do if I find an injured raptor?
Do not try to pick up the bird, raptors are wild animals and can inflict injury to an
untrained individual. Note the location and call MRCC or your local game warden. You
are the most important step in the bird's potential recovery and return to the wild. The
faster MRCC receives an injured bird, the better the bird's chance for recovery.
- What can I do to help raptors and the environment they live in?
Don't litter. Trash along the road(even organic things) creates an artificial ecosystem
that attracts small mammals and the raptors that hunt them. This creates a situation
where the birds can be hit by cars.
Put up bird silhouettes in picture windows to keep accipiters and falcons from crashing
into them when they are chasing their prey (other birds).
Leave dead snags and old trees on your property for perching and nesting.
Put up kestrel boxes in open habitats on your property.
- Can I tour or visit MRCC?
Regretfully, the answer is no. We are not open to the public. Since the ultimate goal
is to return these injured birds to the wild, we try to keep human contact to a minimum
so as not to habituate them to humans.
- Can I donate meat to MRCC?
Yes, we accept wild game meat that has not been ground, smoked, jerked or sausage
No, we do not accept whole carcasses, trimmings, or entrails.
